5 Traits of successful business owners

Whether you’re in the midst of running a business or if you’re considering becoming an Arizona or Idaho entrepreneur as a way to not only enhance your current income but as a way to pursue a passion, there are several traits that entrepreneurs share. Not only do those entrepreneurially minded individuals have the ambition and drive to run with an idea for a new product or service, they also have the wherewithal to stick with it even when times are tough.

Here are the five traits that entrepreneurs share:

  1. Agility: Yes, agility. Not necessarily to leap tall buildings in a single bound but to be adaptable and flexible to a changing job market or client needs. Because change is truly the only constant in life and in business you need to be flexible enough to roll with those changes.
  2. Clear vision: Many entrepreneurs get side tracked by new ideas or by trying to be “everything to everyone.” When you’re first starting out it’s hard to turn potential clients away because they’re asking for a service you don’t provide. This is why you need to be part of a network of like-minded professionals with whom you can refer clients but who will still keep you in the loop.
  3. Strength of character: Clients want to work with ethical businesses. Those entrepreneurs who find they can draw in customers with underhanded methods will soon find that is not a sustainable business model. You want to work with your clients in an ethical manner and that includes traits such as honesty, integrity, compassion, courtesy and trustworthiness.
  4. Passion and drive: If you are passionate about the goods or services you offer and are driven to deliver the highest quality product and service that you can, this will go a long way toward your continued success. Passionate business owners also inspire their team by their behavior.
  5. Leadership: Not only does the entrepreneur have to be a skilled expert in his or her chosen field, he also needs be a great leader. Coming up with an idea is only the framework of your business, but chances are you will need to assemble a team to see it through to fruition. Great leaders inspire by example and find team members that are happy to move the business forward.

Experience and expertise in your chosen endeavor should be a given when you’re looking to start your own business endeavor. Potential clients will want to work with entrepreneurs – especially those that are start ups – if the CEO has the experience in with the good or services that he or she will be offering.
