How to market during the holidays: 5 tips for your email campaigns

Now’s the time to ramp up your email marketing campaign for the holidays. While your customers may be busy at the malls and attending holiday parties, you want to keep your company front of mind even during these busy times.

A focused holiday marketing campaign can not only keep your business front of mind with your customers but it can create a bond that will last past the holiday frenzy and into the new year.

Here are our favorite 5 tips for mounting a successful email marketing campaign.

  1. Make effective use of your blog posts and your email. Have fun with your company blog. Maybe this is the time to highlight a new product or service. Use your blog as a way to push the word out about special products and incentives that you’re offering during the holiday season. Use your blog to highlight your hot product – or even use it to promote a product that isn’t selling quite as well as you’d hoped it would. Use your blog proactively in conjunction with your other marketing efforts.
  2. Offer a place for consumer feedback and response: If you have a blog, offer a place for consumer feedback. If you are using social media such as Facebook or Twitter, listen to what the visitors to your page are saying and respond – customers and potential customers appreciate the feedback from the company.
  3. May I have your name?: When visitors come to your website, offer them a reason to leave their name and email address, for example, if they give you their name or email, offer a coupon or discount or a free download. Use these newly captured names in your holiday email promotions.
  4. Use your subject lines wisely: Don’t let your email get lost in the shuffle. Not only will your subject line influence the open rates of your email, they will also influence whether the message goes to the spam folder. Let the customer know what they will be offered if they take the time to read your email, for example, “A special gift for you to thank you for your patronage.” Don’t simply write “promotion” or “free” in the subject line, personalize it.
  5. Incorporate a holiday theme. Be creative. Use a different holiday theme on each mailing. Offer a different promotion or incentive with each message. If you ship products make certain your customers know the last date that they can order in order to have it by Christmas.
